Allegories and Idioms

Visually compelling imagery can be found in the everyday things we see and experience--quiet moments, death, transformation, the juxtaposition of beauty and cruelty. In this series, with watercolor and paper and sometimes additional mixed media elements such as embroidery, I look at life and death and the beauty in things not often seen as beautiful. Creation is complex and nature is no respecter of ideals. What is on obvious display in nature that we accept as beautiful often comes from the colors and forms of flowers and sunsets, but there is also beauty in smaller, less obvious displays. In the passages of life to death. The incomprehensible order of ants. The tension between order and chaos that is most visible when we look closely at the details.
